I was just diagnosed of having migraine and at least now I know what these headaches are.  My doctor said it’s being triggered by my monthly period.  He prescribed me Tylenol as my pain reliever.  Hopefully this will do the trick.  Do you have any recommendation on how to further treat migraine?  Thanks for you help.

One way to help is to look for migraine triggers or patterns when you get the migraine. Common food triggers are:
Caffeine, alcohol especially red wine or beer
chocolate, nuts
pickled or fermented foods
Alcohol especially red wine or beer
Aged cheeses, dairy products
Nitrates (found in hot dogs, lunch meat, bacon and red wine)
MSG (a flavor enhancer)
Aspartame
Sometimes it is not one certain food but combinations of eating certain foods together. Make a food diary especially around your PMS time. You may see a pattern.

Other triggers are chemical sensitivities or odors such as the smell of paint, car exhaust, cologne or perfume, cleaning supplies or candles. This can also include pine trees, cactus, flowers, pollen, mold and cigarette smoke. Again be aware of these things near PMS time.

These things can trigger a migraine:
Not enough sleep or too much sleep
Skipping meals (drop in blood sugar)
Changes in barometric pressure or weather conditions or changes in seasons
Bright light
Stress
Medication
Getting cold on the head and/or neck

Some reports suggest adding oral magnesium supplements should be a part of treatment for Migraine as a preventive. Taking a 100% of the USDA recommended DV (daily value) would be safe and prudent. That would be 400mg of magnesium (from magnesium oxide or magnesium sulphate) a day.

Please be careful with Acetaminophen products such as Tylenol. Here is a link warning of the dangers. http://health.usnews.com/articles/health/healthday/2009/05/28/fda-report-urges-tougher-acetaminophen-warning.html

Hope this helps!
